Gas cylinders are an essential component in the metal fabrication industry, playing a crucial role in various processes and applications. These cylinders store and provide gases that are instrumental in welding, cutting, and shaping metal. Here are some of the primary uses of gas cylinders in the metal fabrication industry:
Welding: Gas cylinders are commonly used for welding in metal fabrication. Two of the most frequently used gases are acetylene and oxygen. Acetylene provides the necessary heat for welding, while oxygen supports the combustion process. Together, they create a controlled and extremely hot flame, making it possible to join metal parts with strong and durable welds.
Cutting: Oxy-fuel cutting, a process that uses oxygen and a fuel gas (often acetylene or propane), is employed to cut metal plates, sheets, and structures. The high-temperature flame generated by gas cylinders can melt through metal, allowing for precise and clean cuts.
Brazing and Soldering: In addition to welding, gas cylinders are used for brazing and soldering in metal fabrication. These processes involve joining metals using lower melting point filler materials. Various gases, such as hydrogen and propane, can be used in combination with oxygen for these applications.
